Business open houses, fundraising supper
The annual Christmas in Scranton celebration is Thursday, Dec. 8. Many businesses have scheduled their holiday open houses in conjunction with the event. Area residents are invited to visit the local firms as they greet their customers and friends to extend best wishes for the holiday season.
The schedule includes:
• Landus Cooperative: 1 – 3 pm. Haul in some holiday cheer and share refreshments.
• MacDonald Insurance / Scranton Life and Health: 1 – 4 pm for calendars, popcorn and register for prizes.
• Peoples Trust & Savings Bank: 1 – 3 pm. Sweet treats. Find the pickle. Guess how much money is in the piggy bank to win the funds (children and adults).
• Public library: 1 – 6 pm. Pick out a “Wish Stocking” to “gift” the library this season. Renew your Friends membership which gives you the opportunity to win a DVD movie of your choice.
• Scranton city hall: 1 – 4 pm. Meet city officials at city hall (east side of Community Center.)
• Scranton Machine Shop: 1 – 3 pm. Tom Walker will display his custom designs in the Peoples Bank lobby. Register for a chance to win a custom 18”x 18” sign.
• Scranton post office: 11 am – 2 pm. Your local stop for holiday stamps, sending and receiving holiday cheer.
• Scranton Telephone Co: 1 – 4 pm. Don’t call; stop in to visit with the staff and pick up your 2018 phone book.
• Scranton Manufacturing / New Way: 1 – 4 pm. Open house in the office 1 – 4 pm with guided tours of the factory 3 – 4 pm.
The event concludes with a fundraising dinner hosted by the sesquicentennial committee in the Community Center from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Register for free drawings for holiday hams donated by Scranton Betterment Committee. Plans are to sing Christmas carols following the meal.
